Trackdays.ie #TD07 Mondello Park Track Day Image Gallery. September 21st 2017.
Hot on the heels of hurricane Ophelia, the less sexily named storm Brian was sent to really test our resolve for #TD07! For some, especially those travelling from the south coast it was touch and go whether they should risk making the trip to Mondello Park at all and quite a few, understandably did cancel at the last minute. But despite that we still had a full paddock and over 160 drivers and passengers signed on.
There's no two ways about it, the weather was simply atrocious and as the morning progressed and the standing water deepened, we came very close to calling a halt to the on-track proceedings. Thankfully Ken and the team at Mondello always put safety first and know exactly when to make a critical call. We have to say a huge thank you to everyone for the driving standards as to have so few red flags, considering the conditions is remarkable. We have to take our hat off to the marshals and photographers as well who stood out in the monsoon-like rain all morning! Without them we wouldn't be able do what we do.
During the lunch break the Grand Prix suite was packed out as everyone took shelter from the conditions. We switched things up a little on the food front and had sambo platters, pasta salads and plenty of cakes. We brought back the popular virtual reality racing simulator for everyone to play with - Big thanks to Niall Maher for giving up his time to run it!
Much to my surprise, in the afternoon the track dried out completely and we had had some really good running. Drizzle later on made for some greasy conditions but considering the morning, everyone was well able to handle it!
