Important Changes. Please Read

We have a few changes that will be implemented for the next trackday on Tuesday 17th March that we wanted to let you know about well in advance. The changes are aimed at improving driving standards, reducing red flags and generally making the trackday a more enjoyable experience.

Trackdays.ie have always had a very simple set of basic rules in place that haven't really changed since we started back in 2017.  We have always preferred to take a 'common sense' approach to enforcing these rules, as opposed to the strict enforcement that we see at overseas trackdays. For the most part, this approach has worked pretty well, but recently, driving standards and car preparation seems to have slipped to a point where the resulting quantity of red flags is unsustainable and we have to take action.

So....What Changes?
ALL DRIVERS regardless of experience must once again attend driver's briefing.
Very little else changes, simply that we will be enforcing the rules that have always been in place...to the letter. Breaking these rules has a consequence.

OK, So What Are The Rules?
  • Overtaking is on the left, on the straights, not in the braking zones and not in the corners.
  • Drive within your limits and to the track conditions.
  • If a faster car is behind you for 3-4 corners you must move over to the right and let them pass.
  • No drifting.
  • No racing.
  • 105db drive-by noise limit.
  • No wristband swapping
  • No Drink.
  • No Drugs.

What Happens If I Break The Rules?
You will be issued with a driving standards flag. If you receive 2 driving standards flags, your day will be over and you will not be refunded. Drink/drugs/wristband swapping will result in an immediate ban.
Driving standards flags are the red flag and the black flag — any combination of the following will result in your day being over:
  • 2 red flags
  • 2 black flags
  • 1 red + 1 black flag

How / why Are The Driving Standards Flags Issued?

Red Flags:
Red flags are issued when there is a serious incident on track and we have to stop proceedings on the grounds of safety. Usually, it is because somebody ends up in the gravel, in an unsafe place and cannot get out. Typically this is because of overdriving or poor car prep. Any driver who causes a red flag will be sin-binned for 1 hour from the time of the infringement. The car and any extra drivers will also be sin-binned for the same period.

Black Flags:
Black flags may be issued for a range of reasons, including (but not limited to):
  • Poor driving standards / dangerous driving
  • Overtaking on the wrong side, in braking zones, or through corners
  • Not allowing faster cars to pass
  • Exceeding noise limits
  • Mechanical issues (e.g. loose bodywork, excessive smoke, suspected fluid leaks)
  • Racing
  • Drifting

    To Summarise:
    1. ALL DRIVERS MUST ATTEND BRIEFING
    2. We will be strictly enforcing the rules that have always been in place.
    3. If you break the rules you will get a driving infringement flag.
    4. If you get 2 driving infringement flags, you will be going home without a refund.

If you disagree or are unhappy with any of the above, please feel free to get in touch. As always, we're open to constructive feedback, ideas and suggestions are welcome.

    See you on the 17th!
